Hi,

Heard from a friend that if you enter Japan from a country with swine flu, they can quarantine you for 10 days?

Is there any truth in this?

I will be traveling to Japan in July, from the UK, but will be stopping in Thailand and Singapore on the way.

Should I be worried?

Hi,

Heard from a friend that if you enter Japan from a country with swine flu, they can quarantine you for 10 days?

Is there any truth in this?

By now almost every country has someone with that flu, if Japan was quarantining everyone who is from one of those countries there would be no where to keep all of those passengers! Millions of people enter and fly out of Japan every year. If they became so paranoid that they would quarantine everyone they would just stop flights entering the country and you would be stuck at home instead!

Now, if you have symptoms of that flu they will probably quarantine you. Many of the airports have ways of determining your temperature when you enter for transit or visiting. I remember passing by those devices where you thermal temperature shows up on a monitor. Once in the Philippines they handed everyone thermometer card that that you held against your forehead and the color would confirm if you had a temperature.

At present I don't think you will have a problem unless you have symptoms. A couple things that would bother me is if I had to pay for the quarantine hotel and I ran out of novels to read. I get a little antsy when I can't read or at least play with my computer.

Good luck.

This swine flu is such a pain.

It is just another flu...so big deal.

I have entered countries 10-12 times (not Japan) since the flu outbreak. Most of the countries throughout Asia have strict health entry requirements. The last time I was in Japan was February. They are serious about their health entry requirements, but unless you have a high fever and/ or show signs of flu... you wont have a problem.

You will likely go through a fleur camera (detects heat/ temp) and make a decleration. It is also bad in Malaysia, but I made it through no probs......but I don't have a cold/ flu. They wont quarantine you unless you are sick,

@kevandshan:

If you will not be quarantined at the airport. I guess, it's still advisable to have yourself quarantined also in your home, right? You know, just in case only.

Thanks also for the info guys! ^_^
