my travelling companion and i will be in India from the end of dec. to the end of may. we have acquired two motorcycles for our journeys around the country. we would like to drive from india to vietnam for a month or two but finding out specific information about land border visas and the possibility of driving ourselves through is proving to be difiicult. if anyone has any experience or advice on these matters i would really REALLY appreciate it.
p.s. and if myanmar is out of the question can we go from india to china to loas or vietnam???
I am attempting the reverse - from singpore to india by road through myanmar. The official line from the myanmar embassy is that they do not allow land crossings. You can try your luck at the border posts - but the borders of myanmar with india and thailand are filled with insurgents and druglords of all shapes and sizes. There is an ASEAN rally happening from north east india. The rally is getting ground and air cover from the Myanmar security forces. You will get no such thing.
I hope you guys succeed. But it is tough - to say the least.
I don't know anything about crossing borders etc. But on the foreign office website there is a warning against travel to Myanamar, which was also the line we got from our travel agent. Maybe it's best to just sell the bikes and use the money to get a cheap flight to Vietnam?!
