hey all,

when i try and book hostels on websites like hostelworld, if i take a dorm for 6or 8 and there are just 2 of us - it asks to pay up the equivalent for 6 or 8 people. but i was under the impression u could just take the requisite no of beds in a dorm say... how do i do that????

There should be a drop-down box against each separate room option, where you can select the number of guests you wish to book for.

I think some have not been set up properly and don't give you the correct options.

This is probably either a 'private dorm' (a weird concept, but it exists) or the property has set up the availability incorrectly. It should work roughly how it works on Travellerspoint as we use the same underlying system. Although honestly, I think our system is a lot easier to understand when looking at private vs shared rooms. Taking Wake Up in Sydney as an example and searching on dates 21 June 3 nights.

You'll see Shared Rooms at the top under their own header (with prices per person) and Private Rooms under their own header (with prices per room). Of course if a property makes a mistake in how they set up their rooms, then there's nothing that can be done about that, but in general this works pretty well and it's obvious what the difference is. I just checked on HW and they still just list everything in a long row, unsorted.

As we use the same underlying system, let me know which property you are after and I can see if I can have the owner fix what's wrong, assuming that's the case :)

hey guys -

Actually - now that you guys mention it, looks like some of the dorms are classified as private - I assumed all dorms would be on a shared basis! Kind of confusing - i agree! i like the TP listing better.

my mistake - sorry about that.

thanks for that.
