Hey Michelle, yeah joining the fun - this is definately one of the best way to meet other travellers so who ever's idea it was nice one!!

We leave the UK on 24th Aug (not long now - its getting exciting!) flying into Cairns and travelling down the East Coast, taking our time and taking in all the sights! I think this is going to be one of the best New Years i have had in a long time though!

What about you whats your plans? Are you already in Australia or when do you arrive? How long you staying for?

It will be great meeting you all!

Bex ;)

Watcha Bex,

my god... youve got no time at all till you go.. lucky git!!! LOL. I fly out on the 28th Oct into Cairns, and i'm also working my way down the East coast...! I may catch up with you somewhere on my way down, are you planning on staying on in Cairns for a bit when you get there? I'm in aus for a year. I got a working visa so hopefully after my escapade down the East coast i'll be able to get a job in syndey..! but who knows!

Hey Michelle, i know its getting so close now - still a few things to organise but i'm really excited now - the nerves have kinda all disappeared and i'm looking forward to the adventure!!

Hey you never know we might meet each other on our way down! Not planning to stay in Cairns very long, just to buy the camper and go to the Great Barrier Reef but we really have no set plan as such we are just gonna take it as it comes and work when we need to! Also in Aus for a year on a WHV and plan to have the time of my life!

I'm sure Oct will come round pretty fast - August has crept up on me pretty fast i finish work over here next week (thank god!) then i've got a week to get my bag packed etc. - i think i'm gonna be so hyper at the airport they will have to tie me down to keep me from floating up in the air i'm that excited (god i sound like i'm 12 - i'm not btw!! lol)

Its gonna be fab meeting everyone

are you just going yoruself or travelling with someone?

whats everyone elses plans - when does everyone else arrive in Aus and whats their generally route?

Hey Bex,

No travelling alone, but met Lucy on the site and she flies in a day before me, so gonna hook up, which is great, being the first time time travelling alone... wee bit scard!!!
October is creeping up very slowly.. but next thing i know it'll be my leaving bash then bam at the airport..ARRRRRR
i'll be the same at the airport - it'll look like someones shoved a coat hanger in my mouth for 48 hours, nothing will take the smile off my face.. well actually a delayed flight may do it!!!! ... it doesnt feel real yet though... i just wanna get there now, all the suspense leading up to it.. its so frustrating, think i'll suddenly brake out into cartwheels on my last day at work, cant believe its your last day next week....... WOW!!!
I know it'll be dead cool to finally meet everybody... and too be honest I dont know what alot of there plans are apart from that were meeting at the campsite... I think..LOL!!! I love it.. !! i'm getting there for the 27th Dec.
Please let me know what you pack!!!! i have not got a clue!!

It'll be cool to meet before though.... i may catch you up..LOL!

Hey Michelle!

I say the more the merrier! looks like there will be a few of us arriving on the 23rd now :) it's so cool to see more poeple joining the group every week! Xmas day beers and BBQ sounds goooooood to me.

Does anyone know how far the campsite if from the beach?

147. Posted by Lane Cove (Budding Member 53 posts) 7y

Hey Michelle.
No problem about the 23rd. And always happy to help:)
How far are we from the beach? We're about 10kms from the Northern beaches (Manly) & a little bit further to Bondi(Pronounced Bon-die).
Bondi is fine if you want to spend your time with every other English person that's in Sydney for Christmas but in my opinion the Northern beaches are much better.
Here's how to get to Manly. Bus or train to the city, ferry across to Manly. Take you about 25 mins to the city and then a great ferry ride on the harbour of about 25 minutes. A really enjoyable trip because it's much cooler on the harbour.
So within the hour you would be lying on the golden sands, looking out to sea over the Pacific ocean, with a cool sea breeze ruffling your hair & caressing your skin. Ahhh..... I can feel the sun now.......
If you wanted to drive to Manly from here it would take you about 35 minutes.
Also, there's our own pool at the park.
On the subject of pronunciation & Aussie slang- This site may be useful! http://www.koalanet.com.au/australian-slang.html Or, it may just give you a laugh because don't expect everyone to talk like that!:)
Here at the park today we're expecting a temperature of about 22 degrees with a light breeze. And winter still has a few weeks to go. We could be in for a hot summer.

Hey all,

Yeah ditto what Michelle has said to Keith - thanks for all your help with organising the sites (and to webguy and mike who started all this!) and all the infomration you provide (very useful!) - I think New Year in Sydney would be fab anyway but spending it with so many different people from all over the place is gonna be even better!

We'll i'm a sun lover so roll on the hot summer in Aus! I can just picture myself lying on the beach soaking up the rays with a cold beer, bit of surfing, barbie aaahhh let the good times roll

Paul (and anyone else who wants to jump onto this campsite fun!), i hope you can join us - i know this is gonna be great.

Only 2 weeks on Monday till we leave - yeeehaaa

Actually has anyone got any tips for packing - whats essential - whats just gonna weigh me down? Any advice greatly appreicated!! Thinking of getting the lifeadventure towels the super absorbency ones - worth it?

Bex xx;)

Hi Paul, sorry its taken a little while to get back to you! Of course you are more than welcome to join us - people will be around from the 23rd and all bookings have been taken care of. Just confirm your attendance and date of arrival just so we have an idea of numbers! Also, i guess as this is becoming more and more popular, you will probably just need to quote 'travellers point' when you check in in order to get directed to us! The price to add an extra person to our pitch is just $10 AUS per night, so the more we have the cheaper it becomes. It will probably average around $12 AUS, so if you stay till the 2nd - 6 nights = $72 AUS! Now you cant argue with that

Thanks once again Keith, the source of our invaluable Oz advice! But dude, easy on the description - itll drive me mad waiting that long! Also major kudos have to go to Tim, cheers man - hope everything is awesome with you. Australia is the one country ive always wanted to visit, cant believe its happening! Bopoked my flight out to Beijing yesterday, then the nbest ive been able to find from Singapore to Sydney has been ~£223.

Haha this is going to be one crazy experience! Dont know about the rest of you, but i keep flshing between moods of - 'hell yeah' to 'oh crap, im not organised yet'! I think i know what people mean when they say these kind of things can be life changing, especially now im flying solo! Any other pre-trip thoughts?

Take it easy all

Hey ya Mike. You want me to go easy on descriptions??? You haven't seen anything yet But I guess I should take it easy on you all.
As well as Oz Dudley (Paul) maybe joining the group, I just posted a response to Kirst02 who is also looking to be in Sydney for New Year.
And as far as I know, we only have English speakers so far. What I mean is: We get young people from all over the world staying with us over New Year so if anyone is looking to learn another language (apart from Oz Trail Yen) bring your phrase books for German, Dutch, Swedish etc.
Maybe we can get the whole of Europe staying here?
Okay. It's early August. I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll try to keep away from the forum for a couple of months and try to only answer direct questions
Did you notice there have been 148 posts to this subject & 3744 views of it?
Cheers,
Keith
