Hey all!!

Emma i have confirmed a 3 person booking from the 23rd to the 27th, when we can tag on to Tims group booking. You mentioned there maybe someone else with you - how likely is this, would you like me to make an additional booking just to be on the safe side?

I know you will be arriving in sydney before the rest of us, so would be awesome if you could find some camping stores as based on the info Tim has given, we will be purchasing upon arrival - we're thinking a 3man tent between two of us, but if everyone wants to jump in one, thats cool!

Bondi beach sounds like THE plan for new years day! What were you thinking for christmas Em?

Hey, 2 surfers amongst us definately gonna have to give it a go! I know Danielle is game, anyone else have the ball for a bungee jump (i say that as though im confident )

NYE 2010 is shaping up to be simply unforgettable, love it!!

Adios
Mike

So we pretty much have a NYD plan.. how about NYE??
I'll let you know details some time this week danielle so we can book flights..
As for surfing, ill gve anyone lessons haha im not exactly a surf guru but i can stand up.. so thats pretty much a good step forward haha by new year ill be alot better though!! =)
I'm 100% in for a bungee.. someone may have to give me a pep talk before though, and a skydive sounds like a plan too.. again, pep talk.. or a push.. will be needed haha
I wanted to bring my surfboard to Oz but its like 6' n im 5'3.. so probably not a good idea for backpacking! shame thou, ill be renting!

Camping.. im thinking with me being a rather small person, ill b renting this too when i get there.. as theres no way ill be able to carry it with the rest of my stuff (although i will hve a sleeping bag).. hopefully there will be space?

Morning Everyone!!

Bungee Jumping and Skydiving are a definite MUST for you guys, especially if you haven't done so! I've got 20+ jumps under my belt a few bungees and the experience is crazy as hell!!! First time jumpers will more than likely have to do a Tandem jump unless you go through the day course and do an assisted free fall, not sure how it works in Oz. I got a video on my first jump and blogged about it, check it out if anyone wants a quick read.

As for bungee jumping, DAMN thats just as awesome! If able, do one where you can do a water touch, those are the best! Nothing like seeing a body of water rushing at you, then all of the sudden your flying backwards! It's great stuff!!

Looks like everyone is starting to arrange tent accommodations, good stuff! 3 men Dome tents will be perfect and still have enough room to store packs.Plus, they are pretty light enough as well. As mentioned earlier, I've got a 1-man tent someone could use if it came down to it cuz my sleeping bag will be warm enough for 0 °C so I can sleep outside. But we'll cross that bridge when it comes.

A deposit isn't required at this camp site, they just want CC info. I've booked and confirmed an 8-Person tent site for the 27th - 2nd for all of us.

Bondi Beach sounds great for NYD, but I am ashamed to say as a native Californian, living on the coast my whole life, I don't surf. I can snowboard with the best of em, so the balance is there... I'll give it a go and more than likely flop around like a n00ber. All in good fun!

Hi Everyone! This is Keith from Lane Cove River Tourist Park in Sydney. (You can verify my identity from our website. I'll put a welcome note to you all on the webpage: camping tips. Accessed from the main menu at www.lcrtp.com.au)
I've only had a quick read of the thread so far but if anyone wants to ask me any direct questions, feel free!:)

Security: Someone is on site here 24 hours every day. Valuables can be left in the office at any time after 7.30am and collected before 7pm, or left overnight. Generally it's safe to leave most things in your tent.
Don't walk to the city Public transport is very easy from here.
I can suggest places to be for New Year's Eve to see the fireworks (lived in Sydney all my life).
As you all may know, Sydney IS one of the most popular places to be on NYE and it just gets better every year.
No need for an open fire, it will probably be 35 degrees on Christmas day! And only down to about 20 degrees overnight(if anyone ends up sleeping in the open).
You can buy gear here at a discount variety store like BigW. http://www.bigw.com.au
Heaps to do in Sydney and will only take you about 35-40 to get to the centre of the city by bus or train.

Looking forward to all the questions (if there are any left).
Maybe we could all do a Skype session one time while I'm at work and I can walk around the park to show you what it's like.
There are some photos you can look at from the website via the bottom pagelink on the home page too.

See how many you can get to come and visit us!:)

Cheers,
Keith

Kimi, thats awesome - you best believe ill be booking in for a lesson! You and Danielle will have to lead all us beginners

Im up for anything really Chrimbo or NYs, like the sound of those open air concerts you've found though Em and this made me laugh;

Don't miss Santa and his elves arriving from the North Pole on jet skis!

Tim that looks awesome, terrifying, but awesome all the same! Ill definately have to let meself get talked into something like that!!

Just to confirm Em, I have made the booking for the 4 of us, am just awaiting an invoice that i can forward to you for confirmation! Looks like its happening guys

Hi Keith,
Thanks for all the info, its very good of you to put the effort in to assist us like this! Just have a few things really;

>I made the booking with Chris, i know he will have it under control - but the closer we are to the group site for my booking the better really.
>How far is the BigW from the site, as we will be buying our tent upon arrival.
>Finally, what would be the best option for reaching Lane Cove from the airport?

Thank you very much for all the help, and the welcome message ;) - really looking forward to meeting everyone in person!

Mike

Good Morning Everyone!

Just logged on and saw that we've got Keith from LCTP here. That's great and show's a lot of class to make the effort to meet us on here. Thanks man! I'm sure others will have some questions for you as we get closer to the arrival date. I would like to know where some good spots are to go for NY night and be able to see the fireworks. We're so far just playing it by ear.

Thanks for the welcome!
Okay, Big W. About 10 mins walk to the train station, 10 mins by train to right underneath the shopping centre. Open until 9pm on a Thurs. about 6pm other weekdays so it depends what time you arrive.
Getting here from the airport. Again, depends what time you arrive but there is a train station underneath the airport.
Train to Town Hall station in the city, change for Chatswood and change for North Ryde. 10 mins walk to the campsite.
Check out our website for directions for this option and every other way of getting to us and back into the city.
It's really cosmopolitan here for Christmas and New Year and we are very well set up for this time of year.

New Year's Eve fireworks. Two shows, 9pm family show so the kids can go home to bed. 2nd show at midnight.
Have you seen the displays on TV? Gets better every year.
Sydney Opera House forecourt is very popular but can get very crowded.
There are areas all around the harbour to get great views but I reckon the best place is Milson's Point. Easy to get to, not as crowded (still crowded though) and just opposite the Harbour Bridge & Opera House. There are areas where drinking is NOT allowed & Milson's Point might be one of them (have to check this for you).
There is a heavy police presence on New Year's Eve to ensure there isn't any hassle for the people that just want to enjoy themselves. But everyone has a great time.
Public transport runs all night but I was doing security last New Year's day and everyone rolled in about dawn anyway!
I remember last year there were 5 Irish girls camping together and at least one of them went swimming in the harbour sometime during the celebrations
There's no bungy jumping near Sydney (don't know why) but the bridge climb is very popular (but expensive).
I've got heaps of suggestions for things you might want to do, or you can ask me about anything.

Is anyone hiring a camper van? Or car? Camper vans are a good option if you're travelling around Oz.

If anyone is staying in a hostel for New Year's Eve be careful of the prices charged and also there are minimum stay requirements. A couple of years ago some had a minimum of 10 days over Christmas and New Year. And you won't be sleeping New Year's Eve remember!:) So staying at the campground is a great alternative.
Like it says earlier in the thread, extra people on campsites are only $10.00 a head.

Phew! Anyway, heaps of info is on our website, www.lcrtp.com.au Spend a bit of time on it and check out some of the links. And I have a few photos on my profile now as well.

All questions cheerfully answered! :)

Cheers,
Keith
