Similar lifestyle, sleeping strange hours meeting new people, talking randomly, eating new (cheap) things, not washing clothes too often, partying/drinking
Anyone else agree, have any thoughts?

Have certainly met and know these kind of students, but my student years were more like:
Not sleeping much, because I had to work a lot so I could afford more backpacking, washing my clothes regularly, prefered eating healthy, not meeting all that many new people but hanging out with good friends from uni, but yes I did party and drink once in a while .
Guess, backpackers often tend to be students back home, because they have have time for an extended trip and the money to go away. I wouldn't generally say backpacking is a student lifestyle, because I still enjoy it and am no longer a student.
Well the not sleeping much is the same.
Personally I also eat healthily. No crisps.
Steamed food, fish, broccoli, pineapple, milk, yoghurt, fruit juices, banana, strawberries, apples, chicken.

Mmmmm...interesting question. Since Sept 98 I've been either in class or on the road (currently in class), and they tend to be very different lives for me.
As a student I spend all day as a hermit in the library, and all night at home studying, don't make time to do laundry until I have a massive heap of clothes on my floor, eat like absolute crap, never exercise, and spend too much time drinking on the weekends to relieve stress with the few close friends who I managed to stay in contact with during the semester. Sounds much like you described.
But while traveling I'm the opposite. I'm stress free and have all the time in the world to do what I want, so I go to bed at a decent hour, am usually up for a walk at sunrise, hike and bike whenever I can, eat really well, do laundry every single day, and don't drink hardly at all (the occasional night out of course) because I'm trying to save money.
I've been meeting a lot students lately...
