Me and my boyfriend arrived in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and love it, we are planning on going to Sydney too. However we need to work in either city, we have heard from a few travellers that jobs in Melbourne are hard to come by at the moment, does anyone know/ have an idea of the job situation in Sydney?
Also does anyone have any recomendations of agencies etc to go with when looking for work, or is it better to just look around and hand in CVs at every opportunity!?
if your looking in melbourne try down in stkilda all the bars etc i have a shop in stkilda and all the backpackers seem to have jobs. also try brunswick lots of cafes up there and bars.
Jobs are more difficult to find in Sydney than Melbourne. Things also tend to be more expensive, such as food and accommodation. I know this from having lived in Sydney all my life and also from talking to people who have been to both cities.
Hi thanks for your replies! I went to St Kilda today on the tram and Im planning on moving to the area tomorrow, I managed to find accomodation that was waay cheaper than what I was already paying too! I loved the vintage shops too! Im going to have to be careful that I actually earn more money than i spend in the little boutiques!
St Kilda is great, I love all the European style coffee shops I loved Melbourne on the whole, spent about 3 months there a couple of years ago while in Australia. Good luck with the job hunt....I think backpackers will keep on backpacking nomatter what the economic climate lol, so if you find work based around the travellers lifestyle you should be sweet
Does anyone know of any good agencies to join? Im not bothered what type of work I do just need a job asap !
