Too cold?
When does it start (and stop!) getting really cold in Beijing?

October is the perfect season! - so-called "golden autumn". Even November is fine. It gets cold since December and lasts until March.

Sounds good - Beijing is the first stop on my RTW trip, fly out 7th of October!

As for clothing, I think a jacket is enough, maybe a thin sweater just in occasional case of cold front. You'll surely enjoy your stay here!

Nothing special. Just common sneakers or walkers. Beijing is basically a plain with a little bit mountainous in the north. Actually I'm a Chinese currently living in Beijing. So I don't have much idea what will be in front of a foreign traveller. I think there is no much difference travelling in China than elsewhere. Just use common sense. If you can speak a little Chinese, that will definitely help!

Hi Annie,

No exact dates yet, however the rough plan is to head down to Xi-an, after seeing the great wall, then over to Shanghai before moving down to Hong Kong and flying over to Nam - the same as you! Will be crossing to Hanoi on round the 7th of November. Still in two minds whether or not to book a RTW ticket or just go with the flow and book all flights as i go!

Visas shouldnt be a problems for you, just do a lil reading and sort them both well in advance - the Chinese visa allows i think 120 days and requires a return ticket, or sufficient funds. I have looked a few places to stay, non confirmed as of yet. Will get back to you once I book somewhere.

What is the plan for you after Vietnam? How much did you manage to get your Beijing flight for, if you dont mind my asking. Cheapest ive seen is ~£330, flying via Qatar.

Take it easy
Mike

Hey Mike i visiting family in Abu Dhabi and from there going to Beijing around 12 oct i havent confirmed my china intin as it changes all the time i had intially thought beijing then xian but now thinking going to Pingyao then to xian. Want to do tiger leaping gorge and yangtze cruise. Im not getting a RTW ticket i was going to get single ticket for beijing then fly home from India. What sufficient funds do they require??? Would a flight ticket to Hong Kong count as i dont plan to fly out from Beijing??
Im in Vietnam from nov to start of Jan then going to loas, cambodia, Thailand, KL and then onto India. 330 is cheap for a flight i had priced it about 3mths ago STA travel and USIT was btw400-500 quid.

Im going to use international youth hostels alot in SEA

Have u sorted your visa for china yet?

Any info would be appreciated.
