So there is this rails to trails bike trail connecting Pittsburgh to Washington DC. I wanna know if anyone has made this trip and has input they can give me. A friend of mine and I want to make this trip over the course of 5 or 6 or 7 days this August/September. We're going to go in the Eastward direction (starting in Pittsburgh), and planning on camping most of the way.

Anyone done this during those months? I'm concerned about the heat and the incline degree on the path when going Eastbound.

I have hiked small portions of the Allegheny Trail (outside Washington DC and at Hancock, MD). It is 318 miles from McKeesport, Penna to Washington via the C & O Towpath.

The climb between Connellsville and Meyersdale is the steepest - elevations of 1000 to about 2400 feet above sea level.
