Can anyone reccommend a good guesthouse with a central location at around 10 USD or under per night in Luang Prabang?
Somewhere with a good vibe where i'll be able to meet fellow travellers would be good.
Also, if i want to buy bus tickets to travel south of Luang Prabang, where do i get them from? Can i get them from travel / tour agent offices or do i need to make a trip to the bus station to buy one?
Google Spicy Laos - stayed in there one in Chang Mai but have heard good reports of there new hostel in LP.
Luang Prabang can be a bit short on accommodation at times, especially in peak season - from personal experience the best advise i can give is to arrive earlier in the day to snag a good cheap room, and definitely do it before the ferry from Chiang kong in Thailand pulls in at around 6 in the evening - then its rush hour in usually quiet Lpb and the chances of you getting a cheap good room goes down sharply. I remember spending an hour and more walking around with my backpacks looking for a cheap room - the few places left were too expensive (50 dollars and up). so its not even a matter of being picky...
Another thing is to wander down the alleys off the main Sissavangvong drag a little bit - theres where all the cheaper (and some really good and charming) guesthouses are that should still have rooms - about 7 dollars can get you a good single room with shower in these places.
Most travel/tour agents can get you bus tickets - check around with them - theres usually a tourist minibus to the southern hotspots of Vang Vieng or Vientiane, though for some destinations (mostly up north) you can only get the ticket at the bus station and in this case its usually only available on the day of departure itself, so it pays to go early. Good luck room hunting and try to beat the crowds at 6!
I arrived by feryy and I found a room for 18US, was very tired.so if you'll come earlier it's possible to find a room for good price.
For the bus it's simple, just go to a bus station any time in the morning and you'll find a bus going south.
I've been there in February and had great time in Laos.
