There's Mount Buller in Victoria I know most of my friends and Melbourne Uni Snowboarding used to go to, so I suppose it's quite alright.
Alternatively, try Thredbo or Jindabyne, they're much closer to Sydney.

Skiing in Australia is expensive, and the quality of the snow is only average.

From Sydney you can get to Thredbo or Perisher Smiggins in about a 6 hour drive. Lift passes are about $100 per day.

Falls Creek in Victoria is the best place to ski in Australia. It has consistent snow, good runs, a wide network of lifts, and some ski in/ski out accommodation.
