Hey guys...
I'm planning my first trip arond the world....going alone! I have got a quote for the flights for €1885 from Trailfinders for the following itenerary:
Dublin to Mexico City, make my own way to South America, fly from Santiago to Auckland, overland to Christchurch, fly from there to Sydney, Sydney to Bangkok and home from Bangkok
I am not leaving until January so do you think I should leave it another few months to book the trip and maybe keep shopping around????
Any advice appreciated on the trip or any of the destinations!!!!
Thanks
Ceire

Hi Ceire

I suppose its never too early to book your flights as long as you know exactly where you wanna go. This is supposed to be the best way to get cheaper flights, although i think you could do slightly better than 1885, considering you are flying to 3 continents - these tickets can be picked up for roughly 1300. Although im no expert, you may want to shop around.

Im in a position now where im not sure whether to go for a RTW ticket or book flights as i go. Check out sky

Sounds like an awesome trip though, how long will you be away for?

Mike

Hi Ceire,

I think the price seems fairly reasonable- I paid about the same less than 2 years ago, although I did have a few more stops. Though you are only flying to 3 continents, I'm assuming your ticket is a 4 continent deal? Seeing as Europe counts as one too. Is it the One World deal? Remember that with this particular ticket you usually get 4 "free" flights within the continent too, for the price of taxes. This works out good if you want to visit expensive destinations, such as Uluru in Australia, for example. You can get a flight there for practically free.

If the price is not likely to go up or the flights are full, I'd leave it for a bit if you are planning on staying away for the whole validity of the ticket. Flights can only be booked around 11 months in advance, depending on the airline, so if you book it now, chances are that the last flights on your tickets will have "dummy dates", which you'll have to change later, and will again be subject to availability. They might also charge a fee for changing them later- check with trailfinders first about the cost of changing dates.
