Anyone travelling America in september!??

Myself and 3 friends are travelling America for the first time in September and were going to be staying in hostels as we get to the west coast. It would be great to meet new people and maybe travel for a few days together etc. We want the full travelling experience of not only seeing new things and places but meeting new friends and new people. Were going for the whole of september for a month. If anyones anywhere in america through september it would be great to even talk about it!?
