Hi guys,

I'm new here, and I'm wondering if you have any advice to share on which airline to choose to fly from Sydney to LA. My girlfriend and I are keen to have a short break from our ad agency jobs to see how much of LA we can see in less than a week. The amount of info for booking flights online is pretty daunting, so I thought I'd start here - you seem a friendly bunch!

Are there any sweet return airfare deals going around at the moment, or do you have any horror stories of in-flight service from particular airlines? We're looking to spend as little as possible on the airfares (to leave more cash spare for shopping in LA..) - any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

- Dan

Hi ya,
Go to www.vaustralia.com.au and they are having a sale from now till Dec for return airfares starting from $899pp. Be fast coz these wont last for long. Easy on the pocket and although you may not get the normal inflight service free stuff, the crew are always friendly and the money you save can be spent on duty free alcohol... win-win huh!
Have a good trip:)

Maybe try Delta, as the US carrier has just launched on the SYD-LAX route and return flights are crazy cheap.

If you've got time up your sleeve and don't need to book immediately, maybe sign up for alerts on a few sites (Webjet, Qantas, V, Delta) who'll let you know when there are 24-hour specials etc....

Yep - the Virgin sale at the moment is probably the best.

Your other choices are:-

Qantas
Delta - new as of May 09 so likely to be some bargains around
United

Qantas are OK but the leg room is probably better on the other options. Virgin would be my pick for inflight entertainment and leg room. But, they tend to be more expensive than the others so if you are looking for the cheapest flight, look around.

I use http://bookingbuddy.com to compare flights and then check out the flights on the actual airline website just to make sure I can't get it any cheaper.

Hope that helps

Johanna

Awesome maorigirl, thanks for the tip. We're definitely looking into V Aus heavily at the moment, and just came across a V competition to recruit three friends to fly from Sydney to Los Angeles for three days. Competition winners are required to send one tweet every minute during their time in LA. 4,320 tweets! Pretty crazy.

The competition website is at http://4320la.com, and entrants' tweets feed through to the http://twitter.com/4320LA account.

My girlfriend and I are brainstorming some clever entries along with some close friends - we really want to win this! Thought you may be interested in having a look too. Thanks again!
