Dont worry dude, your not the only one feeling like that. I have booked nearly the same trip at the same time mate. Flying to Thailand on 24th September and will stay there for month, then go to Cambodia where i am volunteering for week or so. Then into Loas and into Vietnam before flying back into Thailand for xmas and new year. Then i will go oz to get work. then head to NZ, Cooks and home.
So, your getting nervous mate. Join the club. I spent ages talking about it and now i am actually doing it. I am also going on my own and is the first time i have gone out on my own. I am 26 and have been away to uni but still this is huge. However, now mate its changed from nervousness to more just pure excitement, maybe even nervous excitement. I will give you the best advice i could give you and thats just do your research before you go mate. I have researched Thailand and got the lonely planet books(you must get them)for each country i am going to. I know what i am doing when i arrive, how to get there, how much it will cost, I even know what bus i need to catch to get me to Ko san road, My point is that the more research i have done the more confident i am feeling about going solo round the world. And..... when you piece together the pieces of the jigsaw mate, you will feel so much better.
If you are not feeling nervous you are either lying, or nuts. I know that I will be so nervous when i get to the airport that I may want to turn back, lol. But its going to be the best thing that I have ever done and can not wait.
WI have done so much research into SEA that I can tell you that Singapore will be rubbish mate. My mates have been there and a couple i know that has travelled and they all say that its overpriced and not worth more than maybe 2 nights there(I will be doing 2 nights there)
I would seriously advise Loas too mate. Loas as my mate called it is the sleeping neighbour to Hectic Asia. Its so chilled compared to Bangkok, Vietienne, Phon Phen. Its cheap as well, which by all accounts Malasia and Singapore aint.
I am doing Thailand twice for 30 days at a time. You have to spend majority of your Asia time here. It has so much to offer in the North and the South.
I dont know how much reseach you have done Danny so at the moment I am just telling you my plans and what i have been told.
Look forward to hearing back from you but seriously dude, dont panic, and enjoy the nervousness, because as soon as you touch down mate and walk out into amazing white sandy beaches, cheap food/drink and people who will do anythin they can to help you, all your nervousness will go. Its natural to feel like this, ENJOY IT THO!!!
YES! I know exactly how you feel.
I also have a RTW adventure planned very soon and I'm feeling a mixture of excitement and fear! I'm going with my boyfriend so we can share our concerns at least! We leave London on Oct 1st for India [Mumbai] and then plan to travel all over India, Nepal, SE Asia, Aus, NZ and South America for about 18 months. We are leaving nice jobs, nice monthly pay packets, great friends and worried parents too. I've packed light and gone without home comforts at festivals before but nothing like this!
I think we are going to have an amazing time.
I don't think we have to worry!!
Have a brilliant trip!
I'm sure you'll be fine once you get going. Can I be cheeky and ask how much your looking at spending on your 12 months? Your route is very similar to my DREAM route.
All the best,
hey joe,yeh no problem...im looking at spending beetween 7-8000 and then will have my credit card for back up with just 1000 on that...if in oz i need to work then im thinking of doing the whole fruit picking thing but thats not defo yet,i guess i wont kno how skinnt im gonna be untill im out there!!!!what are your plans dude???
I'm already nervous and it's a year away! I just HAVE to do it while I've got the chance.
I hope everyone has a great time!
Don't worry mate. I'm in the same boat as you, I fly out on the 6th October to vietnam, then Singapore, malaysia, oz, nz, fiji, USA.
I have always wanted to do a trip like this and it's now or never (or when i retire). Good luck with it all, you never know, we may bump into each other on the way round.
Hey Holly, me and my friend are also leaving London for Mumbai on October 1st, perhaps we'll be on the same flight!
As far as nerves go, i agree with joel in that research helps turn your anxieties into exitement. Having said that, with d-day swiftly approaching the jitters are certainly starting to make their presence known, i suppose mostly because you can't really have any idea of what it will be like untill you get there.
Anyway, best of luck with your trip, Dan, we might bump into each other along the way!
Hey all, im pretty much in the same boat as everyone else, wanted to travel since I was a teen now 27 and there has been no better time to head off. Im leaving Scotland on 7th October starting in Delhi 7th October and am totally excited! I was nervous initially especially because im starting in India it will be a massive culture shock. But after doing research and speaking to other people from India I feel more assured altho I know it will be a different story as soon as I step off the plane at the airport. Im sure it will be fine after a few days of getting used to the pace and the amount of people. I have 3 days on my own to chill out then start a 38 trip around the country with Intrepid travel so I will probably be pretty glad to be meeting up with a group at that point. After the trip I finish off in Goa so I will probably relax for a week before moving on to Mumbai then fly to Bangkok from there. I havent booked any other flights in advance just going with the flow and deciding as I go.
