Emma,
I would head over to Khao San Road and stay at one of the guesthouses. There are so many bumping around Tland that you will almost certainly find another female to travel with. Have a notebook with you, write down what other travellers recommend on where to stay, eat, in other cities. There are bound to be other females at your GH to chat with. If not, eat at some of the restaurants on KSR and you should meet others heading your way. If you are the least bit outgoing, you will meet someone who is heading your direction. Good luck with your planning.

I'd recommend going to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Pha Ngan. And also Chiang Mai to do trekking.

In Koh Phi Phi there's a hostel called The Rock which is excellent for meeting other people if you're on your own. It's a really sociable hostel and there's a balcony outside the main dorm where everyone hangs out on so you usually get to know other people really qucikly.
