Hi

Cheap flight to KL booked now we are trying to plan an itinerary…. We are hoping to get from KL to Ko Phanyang in 48 hours (to make the half moon party), thinking of flying to Krabi (because its cheapest we can find) and then getting the bus/boat to Samui? Is this easily done and what sort of timeframe would we need?

From there we also hope to head to Bangkok for a day or two and then get the train over the Laos border into Vientiane and head to Viang Vien for some tubing before 2 fly back to KL (all within 12/13 days) and 2 of us stay for another week….. maybe hitting another country….or something? Ideas would be welcome? We are thinking of heading down to Cambodia…

Is this insane? I’m not sure myself, I have backpacked in South America but I had time and spent a lot of time on overnight buses, one of my fellow travellers has been in Thailand a couple of times and he thinks it will work… what does TP think!?!

Any ideas would be great…. 2 of us have 12 days and the other 2 have 19 days… 

Thanks in advance

Hi

You can fly direct from Subang(Kuala Lumpar) to Koh Samui on Firefly airways, its a relatively new service: http://booking.fireflyz.com.my/skylights/cgi-bin/skylights.cgi .

The rest of you suggested ideas sound great, shame you don't have time to visit Chiang Mai in Thailand, it makes a great contrast to the beaches of the south of Thailand, I have attached a link to show you what you are missing: [snip]

Not sure of your timeframe, but please bear in mind that Thailand is currently in rainy season: [snip] and August - October is the wettest period.

If you find you have time to "explore" Chiang Mai area, and need any help with suggestionsor planning, I am always happy to help.

Kind Regards

Kevin:)

Thanks for that, we are thinking of going to Chang Mai but we are nervous as it is the rainy season, we are thinking of skipping the islands for now and just doing Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Lu Prabang, hoping to do the Bokeo Reserve Gibbon Experience and then Chang Mai??

Or in the reverse :)

My friend and I who are staying for the third week will probably go to the islands after all of the above!

Our dates are kind of fixed we arrive in KL on morning 10 Sept and depart lunch on 29...

Is Chang Mai trekkable at this time of the year? being the wet season we dont want to go there and be disappointed.

Hey, I was in Thailand November/December and made a full moon party then went to samui and went back to phagan for half moon party. Both parties were insane but i have to say the half moon was awesome it rained the night we were there and it was surreal 100s surely 1000s ppl dancing so hard to house/trance music in the jungle you have to make it there. Its hard work have to rush around and lots of on and off different transport but it will be worth it. we were really pushing it with our time scale but if even though ur knackered u will appreciate it once you are there.

We never made it to laos for tubing we didnt have enough time, well we could of if we pushed our selves i must say it is one of the only regrets of my 12months travel not to have made it tubing everyone i met raved about it as a must do in south east asia, maybe next time i guess. What im saying is do it...im very jealous.

Hope you guys have a blast.
