If there are more than two of you travelling together, then it's normally cheaper (if you have a driving licence) to rent a car.

It can also be cheaper to rent a car if there are 2 of you. This is provided you stay on camping sites and use the car to transport the camping gear and to get to the camping sites. This is especially recommended for young couples because staying in a tent is usually cheaper and provides more privacy than a hostel dorm.

In a pinch you might even be able to park in a field and discreetly pitch the tent, this way saving money on accomodation.

So "stay on camping sites with a small tent" is another money-saving tip.
