kimvdg has indicated that this thread is about Laos

Hi all,

Everyone seems to do the slow boat after going to Chiang Mai.. so taking it down towards Luang Prabang.
Has anyone done it the other way round?

And if you have done it.. either way - how bad (in terms of boring/uncomfortable/hygiene) is it really?

the slow boat travels in both directions on a daily basis, but is generally busier coming downstream from Chiang Mai. I have never actually done this trip myself, but from everything I have heard it is not too bad.

I did if a few years ago from Luang Prabang to the Thai Border. It was a wonderful trip, and one of my highlights of Laos for sure. Boring? times. Comfortable?....not even a little. Hygiene?...No better than other parts of Asia I suppose. If a long uncomfortable and uneventful journey isn't your thing, than maybe you want to consider other options. But for me, it was two days of sitting, relaxing, talking with locals, reading, and watching the scenery go by. To me that's an ideal trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it .
