First off, hello to all of you fellow travelers. I had always travelled around Canada and the States when I was young but it wasn't until recently that Europe bit me and of course I'm hooked.
I'm planning a bit of a hectic (maybe not?) trip to Europe with friends. Plans have been changed around and I have found myself with an extra week at the end to travel by myself.
For the first 2 weeks with friends we will be going to...
Munich (finishing off with Oktoberfest)
Originally we had Bruges and Vienna in there but didn't want to feel like we spent our whole time on trains and planes. However comment here if you wish and suggest we re-insert a city.
Now to my question.. My friends depart Munich on Sept 26 (Saturday) which leaves me with a week to take a vacation from my vacation. I want to sit somewhere for a week and really try to enjoy a place rather than hitting all the sights quickly and visit a few key museums before taking off for the next spot.
I want to be that guy sitting at a sidewalk cafe watching people go by.
My ideas so far...
Paris - I heard Paris will keep you busy for a full week no problem.
Venice - Always wanted to go here since I was a little boy. However a friend of mine said I may go crazy staying there a whole week.
Barcelona - I have kept Spain out of my travel plans as I figured Spain/Portugal was a trip in itself. However it was suggested that Barcelona has it all, museums, cafes, pubs, sun, beaches.
Vienna/Budapest - I know this isn't one city but they at one point were on my original plan. However I may do a trip in the future that features Sofia, Bucarest, Budapest, and Vienna.
Drive from Munich to Lake Como and then onto Nice and Marseilles - Probably not a relaxing vacation. But sounds like a very cool drive and I like to drive.
Beach Resort on Corsica - Don't know much about this or what it entails. But the beaches on the coast look amazing according to Google Earth
Somewhere else - This is where I'm looking for ideas? Anyone?
Just some background. I'm in my mid 30s, I'm single (not that I want to go partying in the bars all night, in fact thats the last thing I want to do), and I traveled to Dubrovnik, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, Crete, and Istanbul last year so probably don't want to repeat.
So to finish up a long post... What would you do for 1 week in Europe if you wanted to chill and have a relaxing time?
