Travel Forums Europe Type D+C Schengen Visa(Student-Italy)..transit at Heathrow!!

Hello Guys,

I will be getting a type D+C Schengen Visa for studies in Italy.
Im from India. And I have made reservations with British Airways.
The itinerary is like Mumbai-London(Heathrow)-Venice. I will be arriving at Terminal 5 at Heathrow and my connecting flight also leaves from the same terminal.
I come under the group of nationals who require Direct Airside Transit VISA(DATV). But I also gather that if I have a type D visa for any of the EU countries I will be exempt from requiring a Transit Visa. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/doineedvisa/visadatvnationals
Will this exemption apply for me since I have type D+C? Has anyone been in this situation before? Kindly shed some light on this matter.

Thanx in advance. Cheers :)

Afaiu, you would be exempt from the obligation to apply for a DATV separately. However, don't just take my word for it: consult the British consulate in Mumbai, and see if you can get a written statement from them saying that you're exempted.

don't take anyone else's word for it, either. You really need to consult the consulate/high commission about your own situation. If you were stopped in Heathrow, 'someone on an internet forum told me he was allowed to pass without a DATV' is not gonna help you; a written statement from the consulate is.
