Is it possible to get travel insurance anywhere once you have left your country of residency?

Yes it is - just about anywhere. Not only travel insurance, but pretty much any insurance at all.

Thanks for this, very helpful. I ask because STA wouldn't let me renew after mine had expired.

It's possible to pick up a more than 1/2 decent policy at your airport of arrival, in so many countries - assuming it's a hub with good facilities.

Either talk to a insurance broker in your home country..

or use a company like world nomads.. -snip-

my old insurance company wouldnt renew the 4th annual policy unless I was back in NZ. Even though I had been home in the last 12 months.

swapped to world nomads, and have claimed with them too. Fantastic support
