La Paz to Mendoza

Hi,

I am about to head to La Paz and after a few days I want to head to Uyuni for a 1-day tour of the salt flats. After this I want to head to Mendoza in Argentina, any ideas how I can get there from South Bolivia? I dont really want to do the 4-day tour option of salt flats and I am happy to travel back to La Paz if necessary. I have looked at flights from La Paz to Mendoza and they are really expensive so if anyone has any other ideas they would be appreciated.

Flying is a waste of money and environment. From Uyuni, best travel to Salta: loads of (semi-)direct busses heading that way (did the 1st bit unto La Quiaca by train myself, which I do not really recommend. Total travel time should be around 36 hours). From Salta, catch a bus to Mendoza (18 hours travel time).

Total travel time will be around 3 days, connections included. Mind you, this is over 1300kms as the crow flies.

Niels, is it also easy enough to get a bus from Sucre to Salta/Buenos Aires?

Sure. Most busses from Sucre head via the border crossing at Yacuiba. Never been there, but since this is a major crossing, surely there will be regular service further afield. Maybe not to Salta, but there should definitely be frequent service to Jujuy, which is the nearest bigger town. From Jujuy, you can easily get to Salta and further south.
