Hi,

I thought I'd let people know that for the forseable future (probably until March, 2010) tourist visas from Thai consulates and embassies around the world are FREE! Good new huh! Usually they cost between about $35 US and $50 US. The Thai governent appears to want to attract tourists back to the country, after all the political problems. You can also get a double entry visa free too. For more information on this and other issues concerning entering Thailand, have a look at this page:-snip-

Hi

The information you are posting is not strictly correct, according to the Royal Thai Consulate, the new concessionary Tourist Visa information is as follows:

04 Mar 2009
TOURIST VISA FEE - TEMPORARY CONCESSION
WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT AND UNTIL 04 JUNE 2009, PERSONS WISHING TO APPLY FOR A TOURIST VISA WITH SINGLE ENTRY TO ALLOW THEM A SINGLE STAY OF 60 OR 30 DAYS DEPENDENT ON NATIONALITY (SEE PDF
"Ze CONCESSIONARY TOURIST VISA" ON VISAS & DOWNLOADS PAGE) ARE ENTITLED TO A CONCESSIONARY
VISA PROVIDED:-
A) THEY ARE ENTERING THAILAND FOR A SINGLE STAY OF MAXIMUM 60 (OR 30) DAYS.
B) THEY ENTER THAILAND WITHIN THE VALIDITY OF THE VISA WHICH WILL BE 3 MONTHS
FROM DATE OF ISSUE.
C) THEY WILL BE IN POSSESSION OF A CONFIRMED INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT TICKET TO
SHOW THAT THEY WILL BE EXITING THAILAND WITHIN 60 (OR 30) DAYS OF ENTRY.
THIS CONCESSION DOES NOT APPLY TO:-
1) APPLICATIONS FOR TOURIST VISAS WITH MORE THAN ONE ENTRY.
2) APPLICATIONS FOR NON-IMMIGRANT VISAS.
3) APPLICATIONS FOR TRANSIT VISAS.
ALL OTHER CONDITIONS APPLYING TO VISAS REMAIN UNCHANGED.

This new rule covers SINGLE ENTRY not DUAL ENTRY.

-snip-

Kind Regards

Kevin:)

Hi Kevin,

I've heard from quite a few people that double entry visas are availabe free as well as single entry visas. Just because that 'official' document has been written, the reality on the ground often seems to be different huh! thaivisa.com is a good source of information simply because there are some many visiting the site and posting. It's an interesting one! p.s: are you an sbier?!

THis is old news - although it has recently been extended.

The problem is that the PRIVATELY run Honorary Consulates who issue a lot of these visas have not been compensated by the Thai govt. for loss of income and some may have to close. You will also find that in order to keep going many are charging an "admin" fee to do this...so be prepared tp pay for your "free" visa!
