How come he never had the surgery to correct it? Was it a partial or a full cleft? Did you try to make him laugh ? ( sister and I always tried to get eachother to shoot beverages out eachothers noses by laughing..especially milk...for some reason...milk was funnier)

Way back in those days (when he was a child), the medical facilities weren't too good. In much later years, he had an account to settle with the taxation office. Once that was sorted out, then he had a much younger bride and two babies in rapid succession
