Girl traveling Solo in Greece, Aug 2009 -- where to go?

I'm off to Greece next week for 24 days. The first 2 weeks I will be travelling with a friend and the last 10 days I'm considering doing my own thing. Which destinations are good for solo travelers? I am mostly concerned about room cost/availability and how easy it is to meet people. For instance, I've heard that Ios is quite expensive/not a good value and it can be difficult to meet people because it mostly big groups. For Corfu, I have heard the complete opposite. I am pretty open on where to go..from Thessaloniki to Rhodes to Patras to Crete and all in between. I'm not particular, I just want to enjoy my time with good people, good food and, of course, good wine whilst staying on a budget. Any advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

If you're gonna be up near Thessaloniki, then why not take the short train ride into Bulgaria?? The fare is very cheap - and a room in Bulgaria will cost you a snippet of one in Greece. It's one of the cheapest countries in the world.
You seem to be aiming more for islands than the mainland. Then I can recommend Corfu overall for just about everything, when it comes to a cheap island. The nightlife isn't the greatest - but there are clubs. Expect to pay about 75% of what the cost would be - for just about everything, on Rhodes and Crete.
If you get to Corfu, there's a ferry across to Albania from Corfu Town. It only takes about 40 minutes, it's cheap - and so is Albania. Lovely country too.

Hi there - I went round the Greek Islands for 2 weeks in June. My route was Mykonos - Naxos - Paros - Ios - Folegandros - Santorini. We found IOS to be the cheapest place to go out in terms of drink prices alot of bars did deals - 2 cocktails and 2 shots for 5euros which is really cheap compared to places like Mykonos where one drink was 11euros in some places. IOS is a very young place to visit, quite a party island but there are some good restaurnats too. We stayed in a hotel for 2 nights at a cost of 35euros a night but it had a pool & lovely rooms. Other room soffered at the port were around 25euros a night for 2 people. There is also the option of camping which is alot cheaper but maybe a bit hot?! Hope this helps -
