Chances are you'll have more problems with the battery than the memory stick - that's HUGE by the way

I suggest at least one extra battery and a charger - always have it fully charged and ready to go

worst thing about Sony (I have one of their P&S's) is that damn manual! - you'll soon see what I mean

I swear by a card reader for the memory stick - saves batteries and works so well at cyber cafes - I even use it at home too (think I paid $20. for mine) - many newer computers have them built in

When you say problems with the battery what do you mean?

I think he means the battery running out of power.

what would be the best card reader to get for a SanDisk CompactFlash 4GB Extreme III Memory and how do card readers save battery?

I mean that even my small Sony uses power quite fast - you can save by turning certain options off

I only use a 2GB stick, but even that is HUGE and never had the slightest problem (did get a virus on it in Asia, but very easy to get rid of and it did not affect the pics themselves)

(remember that your stick is also a removable disk drive when it's attached to your computer)

I don't use the Sony software at all - I just use Windows to move my pics from stick to my hard drive

I discovered that it's very handy if you partition your stick:
105MSDCF for Korea
106MSDCF for Thailand
107MSDCF for Cambodia, etc.

that way you just move the entire partition from the stick on to your hard drive, no need for Sony software (you can also move it the other way from hard drive to stick as your stick is just like any other disk storage device as long as it's attached)

biggest problem w/Sony I've had is that the option list is almost unlimited, you'll spend hours reading the manual (or trying to) when you only want to do simple tasks

Have Fun!

they save because when you use the camera to move data (your pics) to your computer - it's using the camera's battery

get a good quality card reader that's made for MS/MS Pro sticks specifically - talk to your camera guy

there are card readers that take all card formats, but I like the specific MS format - all have the USB plug and weigh less than a Sony battery

if you copy your data to CD, this will come in very handy (I upload VGA size pics to my blogs and free internet storage on Travellerspoint)

if you email HUGE pics to your family/friends they'll never speak to you again - use the small VGA size for emails! my 2 yr old Sony only has 6MP, but I never get close to 6MP as I don't print anything

Do you think that is would be an acceptable card reader for my 4GB san disk memory card?

Can you get 4GB card readers or is 2GB the max.. does it matter if you have a 4GB card and a 2000MB card reader?

I was under the impression that all Sony cameras used MS format - was I wrong, does yours use CompactFlash? Then you want a card reader specific to CompactFlash

That's not CF format! to my knowledge, card readers can read any size card

I like the newer format card readers (mine has a cord!)
