As an American this News Story has me feeling thoroughly embarrassed and concerned. Foreign Exchange Students visiting the United States for the first time in their lives subjected to shabby living conditions and indifference or abuse from the host family. The Justice Department claims they are investigating. We may be going through economic hardship in America but this just should not be happening! CBS News reported the story here:
Don't think for one second that it just happens there.
You wanna see how Britain treats some of it's overseas students and workers. Just disgusting, but not uncommon.
Absolutely Yes, no question - it is an International problem.
I just simply feel that for students coming here to the USA we ought to be doing better and setting a better example than what we have done. The Foreign Exchange Students to the US should come here and experience the better qualities of this Country!
PS: It is not the Justice Dept. but rather the State Department that is responsible for this issue. I apologize for the the Gov't Departmental mixup!
We have EU members that come here and are treated with such insults, that it makes me ashamed to live in England.
Even the British Government don't let certain EU country's people work here without strict conditions - even though British nationals can work there. It makes a complete mockery of the word - "Union".
