Hi - need some advice on insurance

I v narrowed my searching down to World Nomads and STA...the price difference is quite significant Sta being about £80 more expensive but the world nomads is recommended by lots of people as well as being recommended by Rough Guides and lonely planet (not sure if that stands for much tho).

I really would like to hear from people who have made CLAIMS from either of these companys? positive or negative would help.

thanks

This site cooperates with World Nomads (see "Tools"), mainly because the founders of TP are convinced they are the best choice.

This might be an influential reason why most members here use World Nomads not STA. So you are more likely to get responses from people who have made claims through World Nomads.

Can't help you much with your question though.

Never consider the price until you've read the policy. It might be pennies compared to others, but what you need is cover - not economy. Never - EVER consider thinking about value for money until you've seen what you're gonna get paid out for. There are thousands of 'Cheap' insurance policies out there. There are millions of other cheap items out there too that you'd never spend cash on. Think what you need. Money saving - or life saving.
Again.... Read the small print.
Good luck.

Just go to money supermarket and search for cheapest policies on there, come out miles cheaper than world nomads

Just remember, Moneysupermarket quotes prices and not the quality of the policy. Cheap isn't necessarily good, especially for a trip to places with diseases and nasty animals.

...and not only that but money supermarket doesn't always quote for a backpackers policy. It usually quotes an annual multi-trip policy to several worldwide destinations with a fixed amount of time you are allowed out of the UK.

We have used World Nomads and claimed through them too. Once they had all the information they needed like the polcie report, proof of ownership (remember to have copies of receipts or photographs of your valuables) they paid out our claim within 2 weeks. Very friendly and efficient.

Well then you just click where it says details and read the small print. The first few it brings up when searching for year long backpacking trip are exclusive of USA but include rest of world. Cheapest spot and plenty of policies on there which offer all u need

Again - forget cheapest. Read the policy wording before you part with a penny.

im with world nomads, and have just closed my claim with them.

claim: Knee injury while in Canada
Total costs: ~5000CAD

MRI/consults/knee braces/emergency room/physio.

All major costs were settled directly between nomads and the hospital (physio/hostpital bills)
which was super nice, as it would have cuased major cashflow issues otherwise.

The support has been awesome, and very proactive.

its nice to have toll free numbers in lots of countries too.
