My advice would be to chat to the people you're gonna be at sea with. There's bound to be people that have done something like this before. If I advise you on what to take - it probably won't be the right thing for a 6 months at sea trip.
Sounds like a great adventure. Where you travelling to?? I might have been there and can give you tips on that!!

I have just bought myself an Acer Aspire One which is just perfect for my year away. I saw loads of people with them in 'SEA', using it to download photos, connecting to internet hotspots etc.
It is very basic, running on Linux and Open Office but I only want it for photos, a journal and connecting to the internet, so ideal. Its pretty quick too. Weighs less than a kilo (less than the Gorilla solar charger I got to go with it I think) and I am delighted. It even has a web cam!
It has an SD card reader so if your SLR takes Compact Flash, you will have to get an adaptor which are pretty cheap, or of course, use your cable.

Do you have to purchase an internet pen drive for travelling or when usig the ACer Aspire you can pick up wifi in the hostel so will be able to read my emails? Im a technofobe! Also do you mind me asking the cost? In British pound it would be 150 pounds?? Anything else you can advise about the ACer???

Info info would be greatful
