I am travelling to Santa Cruz in Bolivia in October to volunteer at Inti Wara Yassi for up to a year so I shall need an 'open' ticket.
Flights seem to be horrendously expensive, almost £1000 !! Anyone have any ideas on how to do it cheaper? I don't mind travelling overland for some distance, but not for days and days.
By the way, I am leaving from London.
Santa Cruz is quite a distance from many places. The closest other airport are actually about a day (including maybe spending the night somewhere as well) away, like La Paz or maybe Corumba in the Pantanal. Doubt it to be much cheaper if you add land transportation and spending the night etc.
You could check the wiki page of santa cruz airport. There seem to be some airlines flying to and from Madrid. London - Madrid can be done on a budget.
Did a quick search throug a dutch search flight engine: about 875 GBP, but with two changes of planes in madrid and lima.
Thanks Michael, I have looked into flying out of other european countries but its not making much difference to the cost. I hadn't realised La Paz was so far from Santa Cruz though!
Looks like I may be taking the route via Miami and just cough up.
Thanks again for your efforts.
Hi Baluba! I may be able to help you!!! .. but I need to know from where you are leaving exactly and if it is a one way ticket or if you need a round trip ticket...
