Real shame that my time on T/P has come to this, after all the help I've put up and found it a pleasure to do so.
A bucket of totally one-sided muck being thrown right in my face from Posters and Mod'r's.

So its OK for people to insult me - and have the moderators laughing when they do, but not for me to do it back.

It is not okay for people to insult you. If such an insult was directed to you out of the blue, or in a context where you weren't directly addressing them (e.g. it wasn't made in a debate which was spiraling out of control), please feel free to flag it. If it was in a debate where you were going back and forth, and you're certain you didn't cross the line, but the other person did, please contact a moderator about it. (Or an admin if no moderator is available, or if you feel the moderator in question isn't treating you fairly. (Though please take a second look at your own behaviour in such a hypothetical (?) case, as moderators are generally trusted to exercise fair judgment regardless of personal involvement.))

I haven't noticed it in this case. Then again, I've asked three clear questions to two Moderators and haven't received an answer yet. So be it.

Why don't you put up the post that you're so proud of flagging, of mine - and if you're so happy that you made the right decision, let the members have a vote on it, on whether or not it's infammatory and insulting (as you insist it was)

Travellerspoint is not a democracy. Peter, as admin, has deemed it inflammatory and deleted it. He is the ultimate authority in that aspect.

at the same time I'll post previous ones sent to me that you and other Mod'r's have taken no notice of.

I only act as a moderator on this System Talk forum, and very much don't read every post on all the other forums, so it's very probable I have taken no notice of them because I haven't seen them. Even the Moderator(s) of the forum(s) in question (if it/they has/have one) might not have seen those replies if it's one of the high traffic forums. Please PM that/those Moderator(s), or if you're certain he/she/they has/have seen the posts already and unfairly ignored them, PM an admin.

As far as I know I have at this point to the best of my abilities answered every question and point you've made. What question exactly did I not answer?

Ahhhh. Fsck it, you've gone and Inactivated yourself. :(

If anyone here has a comment on how I could've handled this better or where I could've given a clearer answer, I would love to hear it. :(

I asked (Im now back as different username - different IP) why flag me - but the not the insults thrown at me when I complained.
No worries. I'm gonna get banned in less than 60 seconds, but will come back as another username and IP very soon.
To get some satisfaction in the little time allowed - I'll just say <snip>. You'd <snip>.
It's people like you that <snip>.
Now that'll do it from me. I'm off, inactivating yet another account, going on holiday for a few days - oh no doubt <snip> Fabyoma who continuously slated me would have come back and said "A holiday - Paddy? Do you have the time with all the shit you write?" Yet when I complained I was told to ignore it..... Then I'll be back again with a new username yet again - and a new IP number.
Ciao 4 now you <snip>.

[ Edit: insults removed ]

Paddy, you're being unreasonable. I for one hope you'll be back here after your holidays, and keep posting the very useful information that you have to share on a number of subjects.

I asked (Im now back as different username - different IP) why flag me

I flagged the post (as I explained in the original PM) because I judged it inflammatory and uncalled for as it was directed to a relatively new member who was giving an opinion and not addressing you in any way. In such a case, flagging it is a way to both hide it from view and automatically bring it to the attention of the admins or a moderator for the forum in question.

but the not the insults thrown at me when I complained.

Because I haven't seen any of those. I do apologize for not being omniscient and omnipresent on the forum, but you yourself have the ability to bring such posts to the attention of the admins.

Also, for the record, I'd like to state that I don't have the power to ban anyone, and your behaviour hasn't been nearly bad enough for you to be banned by Sam and Peter, who are really hesitant about banning anyone, and much prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. Like bentivogli, I hope to see you again after your vacation.

Honestly, sorry to see Redpaddy/NoddyNomad go but he's made his choice in the matter. He was very helpful in many ways. I, like Sander and bentivogli, hope you change your mind.

As to "how you could've handled this better"...
I think you covered it, Sander. As I was trying to post - when Paddy decided to leave and I wasn't quick enough - pointing out the insults to Admin or Mods is the best thing to do. We can't be everywhere all of the time. I'm also the one who removed the flag from the "Joke of the Day" thread as it violated no rules. I believe I also understand the comments about Gurus being able to "have a go at other members openly and regularly" as it (most likely) refers to a few threads in Off Topic. (Threads where Admin has also commented, fully aware of the original poster's history for "stirring the pot".)

Moderating is not a science but a "feelings" thing. There are no cut and dried ways of handling it - just rules and T&Cs to uphold. Given that, the longer a member is a member, Admin and Mods learn more about them and their posting habits. It helps decide what crosses a line and what doesn't. There will always be gray areas. Sometimes it hard for members to understand that but the longer they stick around, the more they grasp how TP works. Hey, bentivogli and I don't always agree! (Sorry Niels - couldn't help myself. I still love you. ) ;)

I left the office after my reply (#5) for home, had a nice dinner and a break, and return to find out that you've closed your own account? Anyway, in case you're still here, wandering about...

Oh - I get it.... You've been been trained by a politician to dodge the answer. Thats all I want - just why they can do it to me and the moderators approve wholeheartedly, but I'm not allowed to have a go.
Just an answer - as easy as that. If you can manage that - that is.
I thank you.

It's never okay for people to insult you -- none of the moderators here have said that, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not dodging anything either. I didn't want to comment on some specific issues because I don't know what exactly happened everywhere in the forums. So I am unable to give you the answer you are looking for. My reply is for the general issues on the rules that you brought up, which has been further explained -- in details -- in Sander's epic. :)
