i feel that my whole journey across europe in 2007 was life changing, but there is at least one moment that i can narrow down to kicking me into gear.
i was in hannover, germany for a couple of weeks, since it was the last weeks in july, my credit card was done till the next month. i was broke, eating Mr.Noodle, and sleeping in the train station. i was living like a bum. one day an older fellow who i had seen around quite frequently invited me to where there was a play being put on by christians. they also had free food and drink (non-alcoholic) . i recognized a few of the other homeless people there from having breakfast with them at the shelter in the mornings. this play was about a man, at the start of the play, it was just him on stage doing normal things. then he got a girlfriend, she broke up with him, then a chain went round one of his hands. then he picked up a bottle and drank it, another chain round his hand. finally both of his legs and neck were entrapped by chains. And everytime a goddamn chain went onto him, the drunken bums would laugh an cheer . not getting the point at all. finally jesus came on and saved him, and one by one he removed the chains and placed them around himself. again , at every chain he placed on , the audience would cheer and shout. im not very religious, not christian anyway, but i found this terribly disturbing. that next day i packed up my things and moved on. the bums might not have made a connection , but i had, i still had to keep going , not give up hope. it was probably the darkest days of my life before finally getting the kick i needed to get out of that rut. i was toeing the line between a local bum and broke traveller/adventurer. hahaha, i made sure where i stood after that.

For me it would have to be the Gaspe Penninsula in Quebec Canada, astounding scenery ,peaceful places to get away from the crush of other tourist mecca's,a chance to be alone with natures beauty, the sea,the mountains instill a reverence for nature i havent felt anywhere else.

What place have you visited that most changed your outlook on life or sent your life in a whole new direction?

It's more a combination of place, duration, and travelling companions that have changed my outlook.
