New York Accommodation

Hi,

I will be in New York at Christmas time as well as New Years Eve. I understand accommodation is going to be VERY expensive at this time of year. I was wondering if it would be cheaper to rent an apartment for 5 days or if I would be better off staying in a hotel?

i got a deal at the Chelsea hotel in Manhattan,$189 per night,do use some of the online hotel discount sites.

Portland Square Hotel in Times Square
Madison Hotel on Madison Ave
Eastgate Towers i think. These are all fairly reasonable.
