Hi,

Myself and another female friend are travelling to Las Vegas in mid August and were wondering if you guys have any tips on having a good time in the Emerald City? We have 5 nights there.

Where is the good nightlife?
What is the dress code like in the top places?
What is the shopping like?
Are there any cheesy nightclubs or discos where we can strut our stuff without having to queue for hours or pay a fortune to get into?
What day trips or alternative activities are there? We are arriving there after 5 days in Disney Orlando so will want a bit of variation.
How hot will it be? I'm Irish and used to the rain!
How expensive is it in general?

Any tips etc will be appreciated.

Thanks.;)

Audrey,
Where to start. August is going to be HOT!! overcast/rain some days as well. Our monsoon month. Everybody wears shorts/t-shirts during the day, very causal. Dress code at our dance clubs vary, but the ladies do tend to make the effort to look trendy or 'hot!". Dress to impress the doorman and the guys and you won't go wrong. Ladies also get preference on getting in and cover charges. Ladies rarely wait to get in and may get in free, midweek. Not true on weekends. Cover charges vary by club and by day of the week. Figure between $15-40. I would call the clubs you are interested in and see if you can sign up for the guest list. That means free!. Las Vegas has world-class shopping. Forum Shops at Caesars and Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian should be on your 'must see' list. You may want to see the Grand Canyon while in Vegas. There are bus, plane, helicopter tours daily.

The good news is that our hotel prices have dropped because of the recession. Some rooms are under $40/night. Take a look here and plug in your dates. The off Strip hotels usually have lower priced buffets and restaurants. You can eat for reasonable prices if you look around a bit. Good luck with your planning.

The Luxor is certainly a nice place to stay. They have a free monorail to take take you to Mandalay Bay or Excalibur. I am sure you will enjoy your stay in Vegas.
