Travel Forums North America anything fun to see on drive between San Diego and LA?

In August, I have a job in San Diego and friends to visit in LA so I'm driving up to LA for the weekend after working. Are there any silly places I should visit on the way there? I'm talking "Largest ball of twine"or "Flintstone Village" type of thing. Or maybe a vineyard...

Lauri - check out Roadside America for the silly and unusual. I have linked the page for California so you'll probably find something fun to see during your drive. Enjoy!

Thanks! Not a lot to see on that route, unfortunately. Maybe the world's oldest McDonald's would be good for lunch, lol.

Theres a scenic drive and state park just to the north of Torrey pines golf course, great beach if you can handle the hike down to it.. Also you might want to stop by San Juan Capistrano, nice little town famous for its annual migration of swallows.

I think you're talking about Black's Beach, the nude-tolerant beach. I AM thinking of stopping there but since I have bad knees I will probably do the hike from the south parking lot rather than try to walk down the steep cliff paths. Heights really bother me, too, so it seems like the best choice for me. I have to time things just right to avoid Thursday rush hour into LA.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
