Quoting NomadicMe

I have in my past and present been a driving fool.

I can get from Virgina Beach to Denver in two days and from Denver to LA in 22 hours. I can do Denver, NY in 3 days. This doesn't mean anyone should, never mind all of this is done on boring interstate Highways. I much prefer secondary two lanes roads, the problem here is speed.

AS said above there are many parts of the states from NY to LA that are less then exciting. The whole of Kansas comes to mind, the bit of space between Grand Junction CO and just west of LA is best done at night, ya don't realize as much how much of nothing there is.

Wont be much of a vacation driving the distances and speeds required to achieve those kinds of goals but maybe the OP likes driving a lot. Curious that you would want to do Grand junction Colorado all the way to Los Angeles at night as that stretch is the scenic meat of the trip.I must be missing something as i doubt you could drive that far in a night or why you'd want to miss all that mountain scenery.

I will leave these questions to private message so as not to hijack the OPs thread.

If you wish to know more about my choices and reasoning please feel free to toss me a private note.

It is always going to take longer to drive across the USA than Canada for two simple reasons.
1.. There are about ten times as many cars on the roads in the USA, which is a smaller country by far - and 2.. It's possible to drive for hours across West Manitoba and Saskatchewan without seeing anything except endless tarmac and grass. That would just never happen in the USA, except in Alaska.
