Hi fellow travellers,

I'm flying into Cairns late October, and I'm hoping to travel down the East coast and get into Sydney for New Year... does this sound realistic????? I dont wanna rush my trip though... Is there anyone flying into Cairns or in Cairns around that time who is thinking of travelling down the East Coast... I'm travelling alone and its my first time on my lonesome!!! Can't wait YAY!!!!

Two months to travel down the east coast is plenty of time, are you going to be working as well? You'll meet heaps of people in Cairns who will be travelling down the east coast so don't worry too much about that. The only advice I have is to book your accomodation in Sydney early because it gets pretty packed.

Hi Michelle,

I will be landing in Cains on the 23/24 Oct and plan to travel down the east coast but I only have a month and a half in OZ before flying out to thailand!! Have you got any ideas where you are heading on the east coast or just taking it as it comes??

This is the first time i've done any travelling & i'm going solo which is more than a bit nerve racking!! Not even sure where I'm staying on the first night!!

Hey will,

I wont be getting into Cairns until the 29th Oct, not made any plans as such, just gonna see what happens, i've got certain places i defo wanna visit, but sure it'll all come together!

It is dead nerve-racking doing it on your own... but so many people have said how exciting it must feel!! I love the fact i've got myself to depend on, and you'll get too meet so many fab people. it'll be life changing to say the least!!

about the acc, i'm booking mine at the end of the month, its one less thing to worry about!! i'd do the same! also most hostels do a pick up service from the airport so that should calm the nerves a wee bit!!

Hi Shishy,

I am!

I'm arriving into Cairns on 31st October and am planning to get to Sydney for Christmas. I'll be travelling down the East coast by Greyhound. No real fixed plans but, like you, have some definite places I want to visit (Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays, Fraser Island, Brisbane, Byron Bay etc) I may be on my own or with a friend (she's not decided yet!) and I just intend to book my first couple of nights accommodation and sort the rest out when I'm there. That's what I've done before and never had any problems. I can not wait! :)

Hi Michelle and Corrine,

I am doing a similar trip, starting in Cairns in October and coming down the east coast and ending up in Sydney for xmas and New Year. Then I fly out to Thailand.

We're all similar ages and girlies doing the travel thing on our own, I too am doing it for the first time having wanted to do it for years. Would be great to meet up somewhere along the way?

Hi everyone,

I haven't booked the greyhound yet, just looking into it, the link below has got details of the passes available.

http://www.greyhound.com.au/Help/types-of-passes.aspx#flexi

Claire, I've had friends that have done the Oz experience and those that have travelled by greyhound. I thought I'd opt for the greyhound because it's cheaper and I want to be able to be fairly independent (not have set trips etc). I've heard the Oz experience is quite a young crowd (I think a lot of people do it on their gap year) and I'm getting on a bit these days(!) but it'd be a great way to meet people. I intend to travel overnight to a lot of the places to save money on a bed for the night and to not waste days! I'm sure either will be fine and I'm hoping it'll all become clearer once I get there!

I'm not sure where I'm going to stay yet but www.hostelworld.com is quite a good place to check out reviews.

Definitely up for meeting up for a glass of vino in Cairns and seeing what everyone's plans are :)

Hi Ellie / Corinne (girlies)

Ellie What date are you flying into Cairns?

that sounds like a plan...... we will all def need to get together and share a bottle of vino.. or 2!!!

Its great were all of a similar age.... Corrine... i like to think i'm still in my teens with experience!!! LOL!!

Travelling overnight sounds like a great way to save the pennies,,, i've been so unsure on how much i will need to see me through!! so cheaper the better!!! great idea... cheers me dears!!!

  • **Hi Claire,

I'm booking the calypso as my first point of call.. i've heard its really good!! so good choice, i havent really looked into the how i'll be travelling down yet ... But i have heard greyhound is a good choice, like Corinne said its quite cheap..! which is what you need!

Anyway girlies, I dont know why i was nervous about going to aus on my todd, knowing theres quite a few girls travelling down the East coast has really put my mind at ease... so cheers, just imagine in just over 2 months we could be sitting on the beach/Bar with a bottle of aussie finest... looking out onto the pacific ocean... WAHAY!!!
