...it possible to get by on £125 a week in mainland South East Asia?
Travelling in a pair so accomodation will be shared.
I'm only going on what I've read and would appreciate people who know the region well to advise me.
Is it fair to budget myself...
£35 a week accomodation
£50 a week food and drink
£40 for bus/boat travel/extras
I would say yes for Indochina, but impossible for Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
(best to stay in rural areas for those figures to work)
Hong Kong, even when sharing, would be virtually impossible to live on 125 pounds a week - unless you just stay in the guesthouse, dont go anywhere and just eat take-aways. Singapore is cheaper than Hong Kong sure, but again.......
I'd disagree with Malaysia not do-able. Malaysia is just a bit more expensive than Thailand and on a relative par with Cambodia and Laos. Vietnal and Indonesia. Actually, if you pace yourself and dont go berserk, 125 pounds a week can go a long way...
Thanks for that, I will barely even be touching Malaysia so that shouldn't be a problem.
I will be heading to Hong Kong and China afterwards but I'm budgeting slightly more for that.
I am looking to spend a lot of my time in China away from the likes of Shanghai, Beijing and X'ian though in favour of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.
As long as I feel I can get by comfortably on that kind of budget for Thailand/Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam that will be brilliant.

I'd say that would be possible in Thailand as well, but you'd have to be sensible with your cash and it might be best to have a bit extra just in case you go over budget.
