I will be backpacking around Nepal, India and SE Asia leaving in October of this year.
Although I have done a fair amount of research and have good idea of the places I would like to visit, I am seeking solid advise from fellow TPers who done a similar route from Nepal through India and then over to Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam/Laos. I am most interested in trekking, yoga/meditation, volunteering, photography and writing. Would like to stay off the tourist track more time than not. I am not looking to rush through any country and would like to spend time understanding each place and the culture of where I am at.
My overall itinerary puts me in Nepal October- December. I am planning on the EBC trek and regarding Nepal, am looking for more detailed information on must sees for a naturalist. I hear river kayaking is available but haven't fully researched yet. I then would like to make my way to India sometime around the beginning of the year, but am vacillating over whether to enter from the western border and first explore Rishikesh and Uttarakhand regions. Would like to do more trekking in these regions and need suggestions. Also looking for yoga ashram to stay at for a couple of weeks. PM me if you have info. on a place that you have stayed and would recommend for yoga . Ladakh is on my list but seems unlikely as I will be traveling in this region at the beginning of the year and I see that weather is a factor. Or, do I exit Nepal south out of country, head to Varanasi and then over to Darjeeling and Sikkim region? I know that I want to hit Mumbai and perhaps travel by train down to Kerala. I need help with the logistics and the best way to navigate this great country for all what I want to do. Time really is not an issue. I fly out of Bangalore to Bangkok in late March but this is changeable if I want more time in India. Route through Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam? More time in one country over another? Thinking about Bali after that. I expect to travel for about a year and could go longer if I pick up some work along the way.
