For diving check out Pulau Sipadan or Mataking on the east. Then travel west to Kota Kinabalu park, and climb the
mountain, see the sunrise.

also got Bako national park in Sarawak.
The capital is Kuching, worth a visit.

AirAsia flies to Kuching and KK from KL and Singapore so would be good for your itin.

Also brunei in the middle of the two malaysian states, but some people dont really rate it too highly.
Lots of nature stuff to do in Borneo.

If trekking is what you intend to do... why not fly to Miri from KL ( airasia )? There is nothing exciting about Kuching! Beyond Miri, you have Niah, Mulu and Loagan Bunut to explore. There is so much of adventure in these areas. And from Miri, fly to KK, and if you want to do more trekking why not lead to Danum Valley? You can fly Mas Wings to Lahad Datu and arrange with Danum valley Field Cetre office to take you in...70km right into the pristine rainforest. For RM10 a day u can stay in dorm..clean, etc.. and you can also do your own cooking or you can eat at Centre's resthouse. There are so many trails...Nature Trail, Rhino Trail, Elephant Trail, Orchid Trail, Ginger Trail. And you will be guarantted of seeing orang utan in the wild! An experience you will cherish!.

In the vicinity of Lahad Datu, you also have Malua, Tabin Wildlife Reserve, and Maliau Basin.. the Danum Valley Centre people will be more than willing to assist you if you decide to visit these places.

Well, after trekking, you can go to Semporna, and even Sipidan ( if you like diving) and then head back to KK to fly out to KL.. or elsewhere.

have fun..

Uncle Tan river safari was AMAZING, i had such a good time and saw so many animals. it was the highlight of my Borneo trip and in the top five in SE Asia. If you have the opportunity go to their website and make a reservation, get down to Sandakan from KK and enjoy one of the best things Sabah has to offer. Safe travels.

Annie,

From KK hop on a bus to Sandakan/Sepilok (where the Orang-utan rehab center is) and ask the bus driver to drop you off at the Sepilok junction roundabout. From there it is a short walk to Sepilok road and Uncle Tans is the first tour operator on the right, just watch for the signs. If you fly just tell the taxi to take you to Uncle Tans new place. You can check out all the info at http://www.uncletan.com Safe travels and have fun!!
