I'm spending a month traveling around Vietnam, hoping to dip into Laos and Cambodia (Siem reap) - I'm getting mixed reports on whether or not I need Malaria tablets, any advice out there?

Yes, do take them. I think you have to start taking the tablets a few weeks in advance. Check with your doctor.

I think you should. However, you should come to see the doctor to get the advise on what to take as it depends on your health.

Also, I recommend you to bring the anti - insect repellent on you during the trip in Indochina as both countries are tropical one. Therefore, there are mosquitoes and other insects, especailly in forests, caves and on the moutain.

Have a good trip.

I took them for those countries. I met travellers who weren't taking them but it's just not worth the risk in my opinion; malaria is a serious and sometimes life-threatening disease.

good to have, but not necessary unless you plan to do some forest walking/hiking. Travelled by road last dec from Hanoi to Vien and some hiking, 20 days trip .. no issues. Get your Polio/ Tetnus/typhoid boosters and Hep shots (if you don't have already).

You can take them, although unless you are heading into remote areas then sometimes they are not necessary.
The best thing to do is to consult your local doctor and they will give you the correct advice depending on where you are going and how long for.
Always better to check with a proffessional than to ask here if i`m totally honest.
Have a great trip and be safe.
Here`s a link to my blog about my time in Vietnam....can`t offer any insights into the rest of your travels unfortunately though. :(

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

Malarone are a bit pricer, but you only have to take them about 1-2 days before you go into a Malarious area.... I took them for the best part of 3 months too and didn't suffer any side effects apart from a bad stomach which was nothing compared to one of my friends who took Doxicycline and suffered with severe sunburn even through factor 85 (yes, 85!) due to this!!!

Better to be safe than sorry...... many people in the world do not have access to life saving medicines like we do.....

Have a safe trip
