Just saw the first page of 'introductions' forum totally full of spam: 25 and 3 on the next page.
How is that possible again

Peter's online, so should be deleted within minutes - and 95% of the daily visitors to travellerspoint won't even know it was there.

Still, maybe it would be good to put in a rate limiter. Something like: budding members can't start more than 5 threads per 5 minute period, nor post more than 10 times in a 5 minute period? (to catch those spammers who work by replying). Those limits have to be kinda high so as to not inconvenience those new members who're just really enthusiastic about finding travellerspoint, but something like this would which at least have given this spammer a two minute timeout after the first five threads, and halved the total number of threads which it could post before being flagged.

Edit: Erm, Peter was online. Guess he didn't look into the forum...

Yeah, I flagged all of those in the Intro forums. A few actually were 'Just posted', while the latest one was not more than 10 minutes.

We definitely need a limit on how many one can post in the span of 5 minutes.

Not 'one' --> newly registered users only, please!

I like to push the pram-a-lot!

Sorry, I know it's a serious thread but I couldn't help it.

Agree with the limitery thingy.

Yup - that amount of spam is serious - but sometimes you just can't help but take the Monty Python approach as the spammer ends up being the parrot pining for the fjords - basically nailed to it's perch and ultimately dead in the water.
