Hi! We're planning a trip to Istanbul. Any tips on which is the best/most interesting area (where to look for a hotel) to stay in? We're staying there about a week. Thanks!

Most people stay either in the Sultanahmet area or around Taksim. Sultanahment is the backpacker's place to be, it is were most of the cheap hostels and hotels are and also all the main sights that draw the culture tourist. Taksim is the place to be if you want to experience Istanbul's nightlife and party until the cows come home.

hi wilma

as a citizen of istanbul I will advise you to stay in the center . the towns of beyoglu, beşiktaş and şişli form the center. there are lots of hotel in that are nationa and international chains.and ofcourse thera are lots of cheap and tiny places to stay in sultanahmet district which is also center of the old istanbul.

and to do, to see lets think:

taksim square
blue mosque
hagia sophia
maiden tower
galata tower
princes islands
kumkapı fun night
bosphorus boat tour
ortaköy
galatasaray hammam
baghdad street
camlıca hill
topkapi palace
dolmabahce palace
beylerbeyi palace
cevahir mall
canyon mall

bolded places are in asian side so you can spend a whle day over there if you like.
