Better yet: why not give every guru her or his own president of choice? There's plenty of them, anyway. I'd opt for Sapurmarat Niyazov, the president of Turkmenistan who banned lip syncing in his country.

Quoting bentivogli

Quoting Utrecht

Or maybe have titles which only include names of American presidents. I'd like that

Great idea! What about the following conversion:

gurus ==> Washington
respected ==> Lincoln
full ==> Kennedy
budding ==> Obama
mods ==> Ford (cleaning up after Nixon. Well, sort of)

maybe spammers should also get their own president? ;)

Interesting concept to be sure.
Ford was also the "clutzy" president. (Chevy Chase's portrayal of Ford on Saturday Night Live was exceptionally funny. Though it didn't help Ford's image a great deal. ) I guess the title will work for me since I'm clutzy in my own right and blamed for breaking everything on TP.
I refuse to switch my political party to be a "Ford" though.

I would vote for this guy, for the spammers:
Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf

And I would have Mandela or Ghandi as Gurus.

Very strange replies to my questions dont you think? I ask about gurus respected etc and a few gaps later people are talking about Mandela and Obama. Is there no control here?
Only joking.
Im just back from Ireland and still budding. Feels good.

Sorry, but that wouldn't do for me at all. If we get to choose titles I refuse to be known as anything but "Resident Hermione Granger". (My Avatar, "She is too fond of books and it has turned her brain" is a quote from the HP books.)

And I think certain titels like "Expert on most of the World's Beers" and "TP Mom" are already claimed!

At your service!!! ;)

Good choice with being the resident Hermione too.
I'd like to be Professor McGonegal. (She can transform into a cat. How fun!)

Even though you say you're only joking, I'd like to reply to this as if you'd said it seriously anyway, just to avoid any potential misunderstanding. I will trust that you really are joking (so you can basically ignore my reply if you'd like; it's not specifically directed to you), but in any given thread there's people reading along who don't post at all (and might not even be registered) and who could see this as a serious question.

Asking "Is there no control here?" implies that control is needed. I don't believe that it is. Your original question was answered comprehensively. Usually the thread would end there, but it just so happened that at the very end of the serious discussion, Utrecht said something which bentivogli found funny, and made a joke of, and people just piled onto that subject. Since there was nothing further to discuss, this sort of friendly banter between regular posters should in no way be able to do harm (which it could theoretically do if a question was still open, by obscuring that question).
In the case you you happened to have a followup question on this subject, the banter should automatically die down to allow people to answer it (and if that didn't happen, I would put on my moderating hat and serious face, and glare around a bit, and then it would).

In general, and excluding promotional activities (which we're really strict with), we prefer to moderate with a light touch here. Step in only when absolutely necessary and let people sort out their behaviour on their own (within the boundaries of the forum rules). I don't think I'd like the atmosphere on any forum which was tightly "controlled".

Right, back to bantering!
Isa: I'm afraid I have to inform you that both "Professor McGonegal" and "TP Mom" are out of reach for you. The only title change you can look forward to is to "Janitor". You did specifically ask for it a couple of years ago.

First, let me say, I agree with your comments about the atmosphere and not being "too strict". Yes, I am one who contributed to the banter because I felt the topic had been covered and sometimes we can enjoy a little humor in the more serious forums. Just my humble opinion.

As for TP Mom - I have that distinction already. The only ones that it does not apply to are the Overlords - as the real TP Mom has pointed out to me. After all, she did give birth to them. I have been allowed to be "Mom" to the remaining 232,069. This taking into the equation that Miles, May and Benny have not been assigned membership yet.

Yes, you are correct - I did ask (along with Hien) to be given Janitor status since we do happen to mop up quite often (lately). Having read the books and watched the movies - Professor McGonegal also had to mop up once Dumbledoor was sent away for a time. Can't I be both? ;)

Must say I think that Mr/Mrs/Ms or Otherwise Sander takes things very seriously doesnt he/she?
OK so 'Ha Ha Ha Ha'. Is that a better approach? I really didnt expect you to take me that seriously regarding my words on the Mandela and Obama previous comments but you obviously take things very personally and it has clearly deeply upset you for a reason I cannot see. Incidentally out of the two of them (Obama and Mandela) one I like and the other I despise but thats just my political opinion. So I really wouldnt have them both as gurus for travel or anyone/thing else.
It does get a little clicky here on occasion doesnt it. My friend warned me of this when I signed up. Must say its the first anger Ive seen but its very noticeable that some people can get more than rather angry for no given reason that I can see whatsoever.
Back to the continent forums instead for me. Best I stay out of this forum from now on.
I'll just go back to answering travel queries in future and keep away from the very personal forums.
