by car / bus? Should we be concerned about traffic (flight is at 2pm). We may stay in Pattaya overnight for our last night in Thailand. Just wanted to gauge how much time we may need to get to the airport from Pattaya

Andy,
It might be 90 minutes, but figure 2 hours. I would leave Pattaya 5 hours before my flight time. 2 hours for travel, the 2 hour check-in window, a safety margin for delays. I would take the bus. Several companies go non stop to Suvarnabhumi. I am sure you will enjoy your night in Pattaya.

Hi Mike:
These buses: Pattaya - Bangkok Airport, do any of the buses from Pattaya to Suvarnabhumi leave from Pattaya Bus Station?

Frank,
Yes, 2 of the bus companies leave from the North Pattaya Rd station. Bell Travel Service has an air con office, on your right as you enter the station. Across from the regular ticket windows. They will pick you up from Pattaya hotels in a van, transfer to large bus for the run to Suvarnabhumi. Roong Reung uses the old blue/white bus that we all used to take from Ekami or Mo Chit. The third one, Transport Company uses a yellow bus and drops off at Soi Chaiyapruek, Jomtien. I have never used the yellow bus, but now only use Bell when leaving Pat. Better bus and hotel pick-up for about the same price, no contest. The old blue/white buses are getting pretty beat up IMO. I would use Bell.

Thanks for the info Mike. I'll keep Bell well in mind for the next time my buddies arrive and want to go to and from the Pattaya/Suvarnabhumi direction - and that's quite often. After a long flight in, you dont mind paying a bit extra for extra comfort...

Bell charges 200bt to your hotel in Pattaya. Big bus to the Pattaya bus station, then they load up vans and take you to your hotel. This way you don't have to bother with the baht bus drivers or keep humping your luggage. Also 200bt from Pattaya hotels to Suvarnabhumi. Van pick-up, transfer to the big bus at Pattaya North Station. I buy my ticket the day before and get a pick-up time for my hotel. Since I always stay in South Pattata, I am usually one of the first ones on the van. I would contact Bell if you are going to use them to Pattaya.

This is more baht than the blue/white buses or the new yellow bus, but Bell delivers/picks-up from your hotel and that is worth the extra baht IMO.
