remarcable has indicated that this thread is about Brazil

Curious. How far by bus is Sao paulo to Rio? How much? Is it safe?

It is about 5/6 hours more or less. We did from Rio to Sao Paulo by night.

Safe? What? Sao Paulo? Rio? the ride?

I used to take that bus every week.
Best company: Expresso Brasileiro.
Best time for travel: at night, leaving around midnite (the last bus at 2 am was the best, but I'm not sure if they keep the time schedule from 2 years ago - check it before going there).
The bus is safe. The two cities can be dangerous if you don't speak portuguese.
Insider's tips: don't trust any bookguide, none is really good. Don't ask at your hotel where to go. They'll send you only to places where they are comissioned, and where only tourists, prostitutes and thieves go. Try to go only where locals go.
If you do that, and if you're not an asshole, you will love my country.
Good luck

Hey, there!

Well, I usually take the bus with the company called "1001", never had problems, they have films, a/c, bathroom, costs about US$15...

...and you are provided with lunch/dinner and drinks during the way. I don't remember the bus company's name, but it was fantastic. Also, travelling in Brazil, we found very confortable buses (more than European standards).
