Frankfurt Airport to Hahn airport overnight?

G'day all,

I need help please - I am coming from Australia arriving at Frankfurt Intl airport at 10:40pm on Mon Aug 10th and am booked on the Ryanair 0700hrs flight from Hahn to Milan the next morning 11th Aug. I know it is a bit rushed!

I would appreciate any advice regarding getting from FRA to HHN in time for the Ryanair flight. I am not too worried about accomodation as I am prepared to rough it at either airport.

Maybe there is a short term rest area at Hahn airport?

This company runs a shuttle service between both airports.

I think you will want to spend the night at HHN rather than FRA; I don't know that airport, suppose it's quite small, but they may have a place where you can take some rest.

Ages ago I used a 'local' type bus from Frankfurt Hahn and that picked up at Frankfurt International airport on the way to the city. Took about an hour and a half if I remember right. Hahn is a small airport, so don't know if the service finishes at a certain time, or even if it stays open at night.

Just found this. Seems buses run quite early linking both airports.

at the risk of sounding like an old tart, make sure you print your ryanair boarding pass, or it's 40 euros to get issued a new one at the airport.

That has greatly eased my concern and provides a good solution for my connection to Milan.

I did eventually find that link to Bohr bus company, but it certainly was not well publicized or easy to find!

One more thing: A few years ago you had to buy the ticket to this bus in advance or at least reserve a seat.

Since you must take the 3 am bus from FRA or risk missing your flight out of HHN you better check up on that.

Thanks for that, but the Bohr Bus Company timetable found here: http://omnibusse.bohr.de/en/fahrplan.php shows that tickets can only be bought from the driver on the bus except at HHN.

I can't imagine there being a long queue for the transfer at 3:15am!!!

I hope they have comfortable benches to sleep on at FRA!

Handy to know actually. Until this thread, I'd kind of written Frankfurt Hahn off when I discovered how far it is from Frankfurt itself. It would be good to know if it's open all night and if there was any place to get rest. Anyway, have a good trip.

Everybody who is on the same flight as you and who is staying in Frankfurt am Main for the night and is not planning to go by car to HHN will be on that bus.

You might consider going into town from FRA, having a bite to eat and then hopping on that bus 15 min earlier at the main train station.

Just note that the area around the train station in Frankfurt is not necessarily the best. The "Bahnhofsmission" inside the train station on platform 1 would be safe though.

And http://sleepinginairports.net/ has some info on both HHN and FRA. (The info on HHN is probably very outdated though, the place has undergone some massive construction in the last few years.)
