What do you mean to say by this Isa? Especially the last sentence?

I take it that you mean my comment about TPF not being a good gauge...
First, you have to remember how AdSense works concerning the Foundation. All of your stats relate only to you because you are using your own Adsense ID. The Foundation, on the other hand, is comprised of a group of anonymous members who contribute their earnings by using Foundation's AdSense ID. If the number of contributors increases, then impressions, clicks and earnings will increase regardless of the bug. They may remain low but because more people are contributing, things will naturally go up. The same holds true if any member or number of members decide to end their relationship with the Foundation. All they do is revert back to using their own ID. A decrease in contributors will logically mean a decrease in the AdSense stats across the board. This is why I say TPF is not a good gauge ultimately, but our contributor numbers have remained unchanged for some time now.

Anyway, here in Europe we had the last big maintenance on Saturday the 8th of August between 8 and 14 some pacific time or so, don't really remember the code for that area

Google does their maintenance between 10am & 2pm pacific time here. That means between noon and 4pm my time. It may have been on the 8th here too, but I remember not caring about it because we were going to be out of town that day anyway. We were gone on the 1st but home all day on the 8th. (Sometimes I'm easily confused too...)

Also, my impressions were down a little earlier, August 5th it started. I though, there might be some change on the 8th of August (maintenance was announced very early) and therefore I thought it was a temporary problem.

But it isn't..

Interesting. August 5th was TPF's record all-time high day with 2400+ impressions. The 6th saw 800+ which was lower than usual but not enough to say things were really off. (Saturdays are the normal low day with ~900+ but then rise on Sundays and peak mid-week. It's been a very consistent weekly cycle for several months. Until now anyway.)

Strange,
I just opened an article (cape town) in the guide and in history is a link (on my computer) that is like:
http://www.googleads.g.doubleclick.net/page?
I didn't do anything but pressed 'backward' and it didn't do anything?
Does that make sense somehow;)

Okay, take two on a fix just implemented. Again we'll probably have to wait to see what happens until Google stats have some time to catch up. I have come up with a third theory too though, in case this one also gets shot down. But I don't want to make both changes at the same time, or I won't know which did the trick if it was one of the two!

ps. this 'fix' will mean that ads will not show for a while as they refresh themselves!

Ok, read this one after my earlier reply. Could be because of this.
Thanks a lot Sam!

Is this fix a change of Ad unit/slot?

Looking at the source on Firebug, Google is definitely picking up the request for ads to be displayed on slots # 4103226619, but it's been more than 3 hours and nothing is appearing.

Ah! The ads are appearing on some articles! :)
Wonder why it's taking so long for others to be 'refreshed'.

Hmmm, weird, about 10 minutes after I made the change, the ads started showing for me so I figured it was okay. I also do see the ads on the Asia/Europe etc pages, which I also replaced. This does lead me to believe my plan 3 is what is causing this. There's an incompatibility somewhere in the javascript being loaded on those pages that is buggering up the ads. Or it's the 234x60 adslots only that aren't loading. Weirdness!

Hmm, okay, this seems to be a google thing after all. It looks like if the publisher id doesn't match the one that was entered when setting up that ad block, that Google is killing the ad. That's rather annoying in a major way, since Google actually specifically goes out saying this is allowed! I'm going to try removing the channels and see if that helps.

Hmm, as expected, something has changed over on Google's end with how they work. They've updated how adsense blocks work and putting in the new adsense code doesn't actually show the ads unless the publisher id matches what is set up in Adsense. This is of course a rather major hurdle. I've stripped out all the new adsense code and stuck the old back in and the ads are back immediately, but I suspect the impressions problem that this all started with is then still not fixed. I did make one change that hopefully fixes that initial problem, but I'm not holding my breath there :( If this is really a change of policy on Google's part then it's a pretty big one, so fingers crossed it was just one of their many really smart people doing something really stupid

Ok, well, thanks for all the work anyway Sam, much appreciated.
And I am guessing it will stay this way, as they don't fix stupid mistakes at google as far as I know. When the income was reverted from dollar to euro, there was a big mess up as well, which tooks months and months to fix...almost at least
So, this is probably the end stadium;)

Maybe it was designed as an AdSense cost-savings measure. More money from the advertisers going into Google's pockets and less into ours.
