Sao Paolo to Rio and Back

Hello all,
VERY EXCITED as just booked my trip to Brazil for November!
Arriving and leaving from Sao Paolo. At this stage only planning for Rio/ Isla Grande.

Can anyone suggest anything else? What to see in Rio etc...

We have only 7 days... thinking of getting a bus to Rio, stopping off etc on way and then flying back to SP to leave.
Any suggestions would be great!
This is my first trip to S. America so very excited!

Theres 3 places that come to mind. Petropolis and Penudo in RJ State and Campos do Jordão in SP State. If you take the coast, then there isnt a bad place to stop at!! The above citites are places to stop for the day. Petropolis and Campos are mountain towns and Penudo is a small dutch town. The coast has so many beaches to choose from. Ubatuba is the biggest city along the way but it rains alot there. Theres no reason to be spending any time in Sao Paulo city
